BIK Domes are manufactured from high quality, durable synthetic materials. A
standard dome is made of Acrylic and high impact-resistant polycarbonate 250
times stronger than glass and almost unbreakable. As well as offering high
impact-resistance, polycarbonate fulfils the high requirements for fire safety.
The material compiles with fire class I according to NEN 6065 / 3883, BS 476.
It has excellent thermal insulation under normal conditions; surface
condensation is virtually non-existent.
All BIK Domes are supplied with instructions for their installation, use and
maintenance. Durability is BIK’s guiding principle at BIK with more than 40
year’s experience, can give guarantees upto 10 years. Extra security comes with
certificates for product quality (ISO 9001/2000).
The guarantee covers:
• Normal resistance to weather.
• Transparency.
• Manufacture and on construct errors.
Product performance:
Polycarbonate : The polycarbonate starter sheet used for the formed
glazed Sky Dome is 3 mm thick UV protected grade. Polycarbonate is intended for
use where maximum strength and resistance to fragility and impact damage is
required.
Fire class : We use only polycarbonate for our Sky Dome which are tested
for fire propagation in accordance with BS 476:Part 7 confirmed a Class 1
rating as defined by the Building Regulations.
Dead Load : A double skin Sky Dome has been tested of the maximum
perimeter of 1800 x 1800 mm with a static loading of 1250 N/m2 without any
significant permanent deformation occurring.
Watertightness : In test to BS 5368:part 2 and 3 of the maximum
perimeter Sky Dome achieved a rating exceeding exposure category 2000 as listed
in BS 6375 achieving a watertightness of 600 Pa. (=N/m2)
Impact test : Impact test with a 50 kg soft body in accordance with PrEN
( European Standard ) have indicated that an 1800 x 1800 mm double glazed Sky
Dome will resist with up to 1200 Joule which is in excess of the impact energy
specified in the BS HSE SIR30 test. Impact tests with a 250 g hard body carried
out with an impact energy of 2.5 J in accordance with PrEN 1873 on glazed
panels showed that no damage to the weatherproofing integrity occurred.
U- Value : Calculations of the U-values of rooflights in accordance with
the methods outlined in CIBSE Guide A should be carried out for Building
Regulations.
